Two-section simulated moving bed (SMB) modified from three-section SMB developed by Barker et al[1] was applied to the separation of aqueous mixture of glucose and fructose at high concentration up to 500g/l. Dowex 50W-X12 resin of Ca~(++) form was used as an adsorbent and water as an isocratic eluenat. The equilibrium isotherms in terms of a quadratic expression and a plug flow model with mass transfer effect were used to predict the both products and on-concentrations in two-section SMB process. With two-section SMB process suggested in this work, it was successful to obtain the high fructose corn syrup (fructose with 55-90% w/w) at high concentration.
