This paper deals with harmonic currents compensation strategy for Active Load Balancer (ALB) with constant dc-capacitorvoltage control on three-phase four-wire distribution feeders. Only the constant dc-capacitor voltage control, which is commonlyused in the active power line conditioners(APLCs), is used to compensate unbalanced active, reactive and harmoniccurrents on three-phase four-wire distribution feeders. Any calculation blocks of the active, reactive and harmonic componentsof the load currents are not needed. The basic principle of the constant dc-capacitor voltage control strategy for theALB is discussed in detail. The instantaneous power flows into ALB shows that balanced and sinusoidal source currentswith a unity power factor are achieved with the constant dc-capacitor voltage control based algorithm. The validity and highpracticability of the proposed strategy are confirmed by digital computer simulation using PSIM software. Simulation resultsdemonstrate that balanced and sinusoidal source-currents with a unity power factor are achieved using the proposed controlalgorithm.
