Marine corrosion of SS 316L in Persian Gulf and protective coating

摘要

Stainless steels are well known as corrosion resistant materials in most atmospheres for onshore structures. Application of these materials has limitations for harsh marine atmosphere in which corrosion of stainless steels is reported.rnIn this study corrosion of SS 316L in the Persian Gulf atmosphere is studied and corrosion prevention coatings are recommended. Experimental study shows that pitting will occur in uncoated SS316L in marine atmosphere.rnSpecial attention for selection of proper surface preparation and coating to improve marine corrosion of SS 316L is involved.
