Research on the Ignition Performances of Al/CuO Energetic Igniters

The thin film systems can be initiated by self‐propagating exothermic reaction to produce a large quantityof heat with a small thermal pulse or an electrical stimulus. Among reactive films, the Al/CuO nanoenergeticmultilayer films (nEMFs) with the highly‐exothermic reaction have been widely studied in recentyears in ignition field. This paper describes the ignition performances of energetic igniters based onthe combination of polysilicon film with Al/CuO nano‐energetic multilayer films (nEMFs). The ultra‐highspeed framing camera images show that melting first occurs at the V‐type angles and then expands to theentire bridge. The Al/CuO nEMFs is heated and fired from below, forced to form lots of flyers with differentsizes, ejects with the expansion of polysilicon plasma, and reacting exothermically to release a largequantity of energy. As shown in Figure 1.
