PASSIVE COOLING SYSTEMS APPLICABLE FOR BUILDINGS IN THE HOT-DRY CLIMATE OF SAUDI ARABIA

This paper presents an experiment to investigate the applicability of three passive cooling systems in test cells, including real rooms located in a hot dry climate in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The passive cooling systems proposed to be tested are: Earth coupling building cooling system, Roof pond cooling system and Shower cooling tower system. Statistical analysis of recorded data during the summer period of 1993 are carried out to evaluate the performance of the proposed systems. Results indicate that the systems are capable of providing cool indoor air and simple mathematical models for those systems are presented to estimate indoor air Dry Bulb Temperature [T_(in)] created by the systems.
