Pressure measurements by means of Pressure Sensitive Paint (PSP) technique, requires extremely sophisticated image data processing. Beside standard digital image processing routines, it is necessary to have specific algorithms to convert input data in pressure fields mapped to a real model surface. An intensive effort is underway at Italian Aerospace Research Centre (C.I.R.A.) to develop an optical surface pressure measurement system for both transonic and subsonic velocity fields. Actually, most of the activities are focused on the development of original software for both paints' calibration and data analysis. This paper describes the state of the art of PSP technique at CIRA, including data reduction methods developed, as well as the optical pressure measurement arrangement and the operational procedures used in the first experimental tests.
