摘要

Extreme events such as storms, tornadoes, and icing have caused a number of catastrophic power line failures requiring months of repair work. These cascading failures cause the affected utilities extremely high economic losses because complete sections of the lines are destroyed. A method is presented to predict extreme event longitudianl load magnitudes and to assess the cascading potential of a line when subjected to such loads.
