The design, construction and operation of water distribution systems in the Arctic provides unique challenges to planners, engineers, utility operators, and local communities. The widespread occurrence of permafrost, high moisture content thaw unstable soils, wetlands, remote locations, lack of infrastructure and short construction seasons make design, construction and operation a technical and financial challenge.
