A series of new dielectrics have been developed that are designed specifically for use in extreme environments. The first of these dielectrics has been designed for downhole geothermal well electronics and NASA's deep space power systems with a nominal operation temperature of 300℃. Using a similar approach, a second higher temperature dielectric has been demonstrated for 460℃ to satisfy the requirements of NASA's Venus exploration missions. In addition, a series of dielectrics have been developed for cryogenic energy storage, military weaponry, and space-based electronics with operating temperatures ranging from 80K to 20K. This paper describes the development of these specialty dielectrics.
