Coastal operations may be impacted by severernweather conditions which can be monitored usingrndifferent tools, in particular by means of remoternsensing system as radar networks and, doubtless,rnsatellite imagery. In this paper we present a new tool,rnthe EUMETSAT's NWC SAF project. As it usesrnsatellite data to provide high added value weatherrnproducts, the use of such an application may improvernthe surveillance and therefore safety of coastalrnoperations.rnThis project is being developed by a consortium of 4rnNMS, led by the Spanish Instituto Nacional dernMeteorología (INM), and aims to provide a fullrnoperational application for the timely generation ofrnhigh level products to support nowcasting and veryrnshort range forecasting. The project is not onlyrncommitted to the software development, but also tornthe user support and the provision of the upgradedrnSW according to scientific improvements and userrnneeds.
