The synthesis of nanocomposites was achieved by the association of SiC nanoparticles with suitable polymer matrices in order to develop functional integrated electro-optical devices, such as Pockels modulators. Poly-vinylcarbazol polymer matrix was found appropriate with regard to the overall electro-optical signature of the nanocomposites, and an enhancement of the electro-optical response was achieved with the incorporation of SiC nanocrystals. In these nanocomposites systems, the interface between the polymer and nanocrystals seems to play a key role in the efficiency of the physical response. The next stages consisted in using SiC nanoparticles with appropriate sizes and interface states to get larger electro-optical coefficients, as well as a better understanding of the non linear phenomenon involved. Furthermore, improvement of the nanocomposite homogeneity is crucial for the achievement of a more effective response.
