A numerical method for the optimal design of L-shaped uncertain plates is presented in which macro Rayleigh-Ritz elements defined on rectangles are glued by means of a substructure synthesis approach to cover the entire L-shaped domain of the structure. The resulting discretized structure is optimized with respect to various objectives in the presence of uncertainty in the mass density and the elastic moduli, the design variables being ply angles. The core of the numerical method is represented by an LMI (Linear Matrix Inequality) approach with which the optimization problem is solved. Numerical results are eventually presented and discussed to complete the theoretical framework.
