摘要

Bones do not normally fracture near blood vessel holes, and this may be related to profiles of porosity, mineralization, and material architecture near the holes observed by Goetzen (2000). This paper optimizes these material variables in a simple model of a cross section of the bone in an attempt to duplicate the observed material variation. The objective function is the failure index under uniaxial loads. The optimum distributions were similar to those observed by Goetzen, but the reduction in the failure index was not sufficient to prevent failure near the hole. This may indicate that the limitations imposed on variations in material property distribution were too constraining, or that data used for the material model was not accurate enough.
