Case Studies Demonstrate That Effective Soluble Scale Removal Treatment Outperforms Bull Heading

Scale is often encountered in producing well bores. This paperrnpresents five cases where soluble scale has been removedrnthrough an optimized approach of coiled tubing conveyedrntools and hydrochloric acid. A comparison between differentrnmethods available to the industry is made. The paper coversrnremoving carbonates, sulfides and cement from sub-surfacernsafety valves and gravel pack screens. Field comparisons havernbeen made between simple bull heading of solvents, impactrnhammers, motor and mills, simple jetting nozzles, andrnoptimized jetting tools with solvents. The combination ofrnsolvents and tools with optimized hydraulics is shown to bernhighly effective.rnThe results are presented with increase in production ratesrnwhere applicable. Three examples are shown where increasernin production ranges from 50% to an 8-fold increase.
