The increased complexity of hydraulic and complexrnelectrohydraulic flow-control systems, especially withrnmultizone completions, substantially increases deploymentrnrisk. Until now it has not been possible to provide an infinitelyrnvariable flow-control system for multiple zones using only arnsingle conduit from surface.rnThe BP Wytch Farm F-22 well has an all-electric tubing-retrievablernflow-control device installed as the primary activerndownhole component in the intelligent completion system.rnThis device integrates an electromechanical adjustable choke,rnmultiple quartz pressure and/or temperature sensors, and arnmass-flow sensor, all powered from the surface through onernpermanent downhole cable. Multiple flow-control devices canrnbe run on the same cable to provide zonal control andrnmonitoring. Each device is independently addressable,rnallowing the operator to adjust any zone in the well onrncommand and react to potential reservoir uncertainties in realrntime. The presence of an electric pump cable near thernpermanent downhole cable at the Wytch Farm installation hasrndemonstrated that the communication system working on arntwisted pair cable is immune to noise.rnThe fully electrical system can establish a secure linkrnbetween multiple downhole sensing and flow-controlrncomponents, the surface acquisition system, and remoterncontrol locations where reservoir engineers and productionrnspecialists can monitor and control well operations. Infinitelyrnvariable flow control coupled with real-time monitoring andrndata transmission will facilitate and accelerate therndevelopment of subsea, deepwater, and other hostile locationrnwells by eliminating the need for surface or closerninfrastructure.
