摘要

Schlumberger Excellence in Educational Developmentrn(SEED) operates through a Connectivity Grant Program, rnoffering financial and technical assistance to connectrndisadvantaged schools in developing countries to the Internet.rnIn addition, an educational Web site shares the knowledge andrnexpertise of the company’s scientists and engineers with 10- torn18-year-olds around the world. In just over 3 years, the SEEDrnprogram has made the Internet available to approximately 50rnorganizations educating more than 87,000 children in 15rndeveloping countries. The development of this worldwidernlearning community offers young people a tangiblernopportunity to participate in the economic and socialrnadvantages afforded by access to new knowledge andrntechnologies. Through the ReSEED initiative, the largerrncommunity also benefits, as these schools share what theyrnhave learned with the communities in which they live.rnWe describe successful programs at Port Harcourt,rnNigeria, and Faridabad, India, where SEED is making arnpositive impact on individual lives and the communitiesrnat large.
