Maximising the Value of the North West Shelf Project Using the DIME Forecasting and Optimisation Tool

The North West Shelf Venture Project (NWSP) producesrnLNG, domestic gas, condensate and LPG’s for supply to arnvariety of customers in the Asia Pacific region. Thernintegrated nature of the Project provides a key competitivernadvantage through being able to optimise the complete supplyrnchain from reservoir to sales. Gas and liquids are producedrnand processed offshore with final treatment onshore to meetrnthe required product specifications.rnThe challenge faced by the Venturers that own the NWSP isrnto optimise the current and future development of the NorthrnWest Shelf assets to maximise value for venture owners andrnall its stakeholders e.g. Government. The reservoir portfolio isrnbecoming increasingly complex and includes fields whichrnhave been in gas recycle mode to maximise liquid recovery,rnand fields that will in the near term and long term requirerncompression to increase deliverability and access low pressurernreserves and undeveloped oil & gas fields that representrnopportunities to accelerate liquid production.rnTo facilitate Project wide optimization, Woodside EnergyrnLimited, the operator, has developed a hybrid linearrnprogramming optimisation tool, DIME, (Data IntegratedrnManagement Environment) to generate long term productionrnand cost forecasts. This paper outlines the far reaching impactrnof the development and use of DIME within the supplyrndevelopment division of the North West Shelf Venture,rnNWSV. To fully realize the strategic benefits of the tool thernbusiness processes, individual roles, skills and organisationalrnstructure of the supply development division have evolvedrnwith the DIME technology. A dedicated optimisation grouprnfacilitates the forecasting process & system optimizationrninterfacing with key stakeholders from technical experts to thernproduct marketing groups.
