A conceptual design of an integrated beam control system (BCS) that can support tactical, mobile, solid-state heat-capacity laser (SSHCL) applications is presented. A distinguishing feature of this design is that it satisfies the requirement for high performance while meeting stringent weight and size limitations consistent with mounting the entire system on a hybrid-electric high-mobility multi-purpose wheeled vehicle (HE-HMMWV). An analysis of the projected performance of the system for various conditions (e.g., target range, target characteristics, and propagation environment) is used to determine useful ranges of the key system parameters: output beam diameter, beam quality, system jitter, and defocus. The resulting BCS, including system, opto-mechanical, and control system designs, is described.
