A deep core boring named KIX18-1 was conducted in Kansai Internationl Airport (KIA) fortwo years from 2007 to 2008. This paper introduces a part of the results of the survey. The depth of the excavationwas about 1350m and a bedrock made of quartz diorite was discovered at the depth. Alternate layers ofclay and sand existed over 1000m beneath KIA. Depositional age and environment of the alternate layers wasestimated through examinations of volcanic sediments, microfossils, and paleomagnetic polarities. Severaltypes of consolidation tests were conducted with samples obtained by the PHRI-type wire-line sampling systemin KIX18-1. The results of the tests showed that a group of consolidation yield stress obtained by thepresent study was relatively larger than obtained by preliminary surveys in shallow layers. It had been thoughtthat one of the causes of the result was progress of consolidation in the layers.
