The use of human adult stem cells for tissue engineered vascular grafts (TEVGs) may represent a critical step toward clinical translation of this technology. Adipose tissue is perhaps the most abundant and accessible source for adult stem cells. The yield of adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs) is much higher than bone marrow-derived stem cells and is associated with less donor site morbidity. Their availability and multipotentiality make ADSCs potential cell source for TEVG applications. The objective of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of TEVGs seeded with human ADSCs (hADSCs) in a rat model.
