MINERAL EXPLORATION, MINING AND ABORIGINAL COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

Aboriginal community engagement is a necessity in mineral exploration and mining - a large industrial project cannot be developed anywhere in the world if local indigenous people and communities do not embrace the project. Mutually beneficial relationships with Aboriginal communities that bring certainty to those communities can be developed. The private sector and Aboriginal communities can work together to overcome the economic uncertainties created by unsettled land claims. Successful aboriginal community engagement incorporates Aboriginal goals of respecting land and resources, and conducting activities in economically, socially and environmentally responsible ways to ensure long-term sustainability.
