Two-dimensional plane strain finite element analyses have been used to develop J estimation equations for single-edge-notch specimens subjected to fixed-grip tensile loading from experimetnally measured quantities, notably area under load vs. plastic load line displacement (A~pl_LLD) and area uder load vs. plastic crack mouth opening displacement (A~pl_CMOD). It was found that J estimation from A ~_l_CMOD is much more reliable than from A~pl_LLD since dependence on strain hardening coefficient is much reduced int eh former case.
