Dancing with the Devil: Faculty Assessment ProcessTransformed with Web Technology

Ringling School’s Institutional Technology, in partnership withrnthe Dean of Faculty Office has assessed, planned, andrnimplemented a web-based paperless Course and FacultyrnAssessment package using home-brewed software components. Atrnour institution, the Course and Faculty Assessment package hasrntransformed the traditional faculty evaluation process into arnpedagogically effective paperless protocol. Although the facultyrnassessment process is straight forward, it is a labor-intensivernactivity for the Academic Affairs division. Furthermore, managingrnand organizing the assessment process requires coordination withrnfaculty members. Our web-based approach to course and facultyrnassessment is a cost effective, robust, scalable, flexible, adaptable,rnsecure, and attractive solution.rnIn this report, we present key topics including project strategicrnplanning for Institutional Technology, implementation framework,rnarchiving and accessing past assessments, data analysis issues,rnuser support issues, campus Institutional Technology standards,rnintegration plans with a campus portal, and other future plans. Inrnlight of our experience at Ringling School, we discuss issues wernhad to address relating to building and maintaining pedagogicallyrneffective assessment tools. We discuss our method and present ourrnapproach to evaluate our success in delivering this strategicrnchange.
