Apart from requiring the structural integrity maintained in the event of a ship impact with a bridge structure other considerations may be of importance. For the Oresund combined train/motorway connection between Sweden and Denmark it has turned out that contribution from the risk of train derailment following a ship impact with a pier or deck house collision with a girder shall be included in the overall operational risk analysis.
