Healthy coral reefs are among the most biologically diversernand economically valuable ecosystems on earth,rnproviding valuable and vital ecosystem services. Coralrnreef decline will have alarming consequences for approximatelyrn500 million people who depend on coral reefs forrnfood, coastal protection, building materials, and incomernfrom tourism.rnThis work addresses the study and monitoring of coralrnreefs habitats using remote sensing, assessing if the repercussionsrnof cyclones can be detected using MERIS Coast-rnColour data, on the Great Barrier Reef World HeritagernArea.
