In this paper a simple model is presented for the shock Hugoniot of a two-component monodisperse elemental powder mixture. It is expressed in terms of the thermodynamic attributes of the single components. Together with the conservation laws of mass and momentum it defines in implicit form a surface in the space of the specific volumes of the two components and the pressure. This surface is the two-component analogue of the well-known Hugoniot curve of a single component system. Also, it has been established that in order the assumptions for thermodynamic equilibrium of the compressed material behind the shock front to hold it is necessary the average diameter of the particles to be smaller than a quantity determined by the shock rise time and the thermal diffusivity of the material.
