The temporal and spatial variability of the ice inrnLiaodong bay is quite different from the ice in the PolarrnRegions and high-latitude regions. The spatio-temporalrndistribution of ice in Liaodong bay is prominentlyrninfluenced by the environmental factors, such asrntemperature, wind, topography, tide, salinity. In thisrnpaper, the relationship of the ice spatio-temporalrndistribution with the environmental factors wasrnanalyzed by using long-time series of ENVISAT ASARrnand MODIS imagery and meteorological data obtainedrnfrom marine coastal weather stations near Liaodong Bay.rnAnalysis results showed that the ice area in Liaodongrnbay is less sensitive to temperature and wind in seriousrnice period. But the change of temperature can makernremarkably the change of the ice area in the meltingrnperiod. Wind can affect the speed of the growing andrnmelting of sea ice, and it also affects the ice distributionrnof ice edge. The tide can make the whole regional icerndrift several kilometers in short time with the velocityrn0.5m/s, but it can't change the area of sea ice. Thernsalinity, topography and precipitation will also influencernthe change of the sea ice area and edge in a certainrnextent.
