Acquisition and Disposal of Airport Noise Land

On September 30, 2005, the DOT Office of Inspector General published the results of a government audit that disclosed the FAA and airports were not consistently complying with federal grant requirements and government policies related to the disposal of airport land that had been acquired for noise abatement and mitigation purposes with an FAA grant. In 2006, in response to the audit, the FAA prepared some preliminary instructions to guide FAA offices and airport owners in the proper way to manage and dispose of grant acquired noise land. The presentation will describe the rules that apply to land acquired with an FAA grant for land-use compatibility purposes. It will also explain the FAA policy guidance developed in 2006 to ensure better accountability for noise land and the financial value of noise land from the time of acquisition through disposal and reuse.
