THE CCM PROCESS FOR AUTOMATED CONTINUOUS COMPRESSION MOLDING OF THERMOPLASTIC COMPOSITES

The CCM process is a proven production method for the rapid manufacturing of continuouslyrnreinforced thermoplastic composites. It allows for the fabrication of continuous laminates orrnprofiles such as C or I channels, with tailored reinforcement orientation. Carbon fiber reinforcedrnPEKK, PEEK and PPS components are currently manufactured on the equipment, and it isrnunderstood that lower cost industrial grade materials such as glass reinforced nylon can also bernformed with the equipment.rnThis paper will describe the process details and limitations of the existing equipment. Examplesrnof fabricated components will be provided, as well as properties and performance of typicalrncomponents.
