The paper explores the possibilities of the integral representation of the wave field, obtained by the double weighted Fourier transform method for studying some features of radio wave propagation in a multiscale randomly inhomogeneous ionosphere both without reflection and with vertical sounding of the ionosphere. It is noted that the conditions of applicability of the geometrical optics approximation for frequency coherence are weaker than those for individual implementations. Examples are given of calculation of frequency coherence functions of waves in ionospheric plasma with irregularities described by Shkarofsky’s model. The simulation results show that diffraction effects reduce the width of the frequency coherence function.
