A certain HUD is an advanced ariborne fire control equipment developed by our research instiute for an aireraft. Though Various reliability measures were adopted, the HUD design limited by differnet conditions had caused many failures in tests and applications of the factory and the field, so it couldn't meet the practical requirements of the Air Force. By analyzing the collected failures, 32 corresponding improvement measures are provided, which help to resolve the technology problems influencing HUD reliability. The reliability qualification test was implemented for improved HUD> It is shown that performance of HUD is enhanced and the improvement measures are so efficient that one-sided confidence lower limit of HUD reliability MTBF is up to 294hours (confidence level of 80
