Quality of single pigment concentrates-a comparison of methods

1. Dispersion of pigments depends on a lot of parameters e.g. the processing conditions and dispersion additives. 2. Mixing with hot condition improves the filter value usually better than a cold mix 3. Using pigment preparation improves the color yield and film note more than using powder pigment 4. Using a soft screw design rather than a high shear screw improves both film note and color strength. 5. Comparing the correlation of the processes to determine the quality of a single pigment concentrate, there is a very good correlation between color strength and film note - whereas filter value results do not always point into the same direction. 6. Filter value as a "quality instrument" is very good to see difference between the very good and the very bad results - to assess differences in the high performance area, film note and color strength are better "partners".
