The present paper gives an overview of the results obtained by ONERA during the CHANCE research project which combined the efforts of the German and French Aerospace Research Centres DLR and ONERA, the University of Stuttgart and the two National Helicopter Manufacturers, Eurocopter and Eurocopter Deutschland, over 6.5 years, for computing the complete helicopter aerodynamics by solving the RANS equations. The results presented concern the isolated rotor in hover, the isolated fuselage, the time-averaged modelling of rotor-fuselage interactions by an actuator disk, the coupling of CFD with blade dynamics and the simulation of unsteady rotor-fuselage interaction.
