摘要

This paper briefly describes a computational model developed by ourrngroup to calculate the coefficient of friction between a steel blade andrnice. We then discuss two experiments executed to specify certainrnaspects of the computational model. We measured the ice hardness ofrnfive athletic ice surfaces and found it to be ((-0.6 ± 0.4)T + (14.7 ±rn2.1)) MPa. We also measured the coefficient of friction between steelrnblades (runners) and ice at low speeds and during a World Cup 2-menrnbobsleigh competition as μ = (5.3 ± 2.0) ×10~(-3).
