Now a days many of the technologists prefer decanter instead of vacuum filters for juice clarifier mud, solids and liquid separation technique. Vacuum filter works on the basis of vacuum filtration. If there is any vacuum problem, it affects the efficiency. But in decanter solids and liquid separation is based on the centrifugal force. So vacuum problem can be avoided.We use decanter for mud solids and liquids separation process. Vacuum filter has so many problems like uneven bagacillo feeding, bagasse and mud mixing problems, vacuum problems, entrainment problem, filter drum screen damages, filter drum scrapper problems. These are the problems that make the sugar losses more through filter cake. To overcome these types of problems we go for alternate equipment i.e. Decanter. It is the two stage process. In stage I separated juice (centrate) is sent to limed juice tank.The solid separated is mixed with hot water and again fed in to the decanter. In the IInd stage, the decanted juice is used for mill imbibition. Separated dry solid is discharged to the mud conveyor to the mud bin and used for agriculture purpose.
