The velocity dispersion and wave attenuation of a layered piezoelectric structure loaded with a viscous liquid is studied, where (1-x)Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3O3-xPbTiO3[PMN-xPT] single crystal is chosen as the piezoelectric layer. When PMN-xPT is being polarized along [011 ]c and [001]c, the macroscopic symmetries are mm2 and 4mm, respectively. For the nonconductive liquid, the electrically open and shorted cases at the interface between the liquid and the piezoelectric layer are considered. The phase velocity equations of SH surface waves are first derived. The effects of the viscous coefficient of the liquid and polarizing direction of the PMN-xPT single crystal on the phase velocity and attenuation are analyzed. The numerical results show that the different polarizing directions can produce different dispersion and attenuation characteristics, and the phase velocity decreases and the attenuation increases with the viscous coefficient increasing. These results can be useful for the design of liquid biosensors.
