The separation of cobalt from nickel in sulphate media with Caro's acid and ozone is compared. A pilot plant campaign was conducted employing both oxidants and results of this work are provided. Ozone utilisation data at varying pH, temperature, retention time are discussed. The residues were upgraded employing a classical low pH leach to a Co:Ni ratio of approximately 5 and several hundred employing a novel extraction process.
