PURPOSE:To separate high purity Ni and Co from a soln. contg. Ni and Co by bringing the soln. into contact with an org. solvent contg. mono-2-ethylhexyl ester of 2-ethylhexylphosphonic acid to extract the Co into the solvent. CONSTITUTION:An org. solvent such as kerosene is mixed with 2.5-40vol% mono-2-ethylhexyl ester of 2-ethylhexylphosphonic acid. By extracting a soln. contg. Ni and Co by a liq.-liq. extraction method with the org. solvent, the Co is selectively extracted into the solvent. The Co extracted solvent contains impurity ions other than Co, so it is washed by contact with an aqueous sulfuric acid soln. contg. 1-10g/l Ni and 10-30g/l Co. Thus, an org. phase free from impurity ions is obtd.
