HEALTH FROM SPACE TO GROUND – A CENTRE TO FOSTER ITALY IMPRESSIVE ACHIEVEMENTS IN SPACE MEDICINE AND BIOTECHNOLOGY

The paper describes the project for a new strategicrnasset currently emerging within the Italian scientificrncommunity in the field of Space Medicine andrnBiotechnology: an Italian Centre for Health from Spacernto Ground, dedicated to transferring biomedicalrnmethodologies from Space to Earth applications (forrnrehabilitation, prevention, degenerative diseasesrntreatment), to co-operate with existing similar centers torngather and disseminate data, resources and facilities.rnThis need originates by the convergence between a veryrnactive science community, (fostered by the Italian spacernAgency and the recently founded the Italian Society forrnSpace Biomedicine and Biotechnology - ISSBB) andrnALTEC SpA, a public/private company incorporated inrnTurin by Thales Alenia Space Italy, ASI, a localrnconsortium among local authorities and Finmeccanica,rnwhich is very active in supporting Science in Space.
