The South Coast Air Quality Management District (AQMD) is responsible for the airrnquality in the South Coast Air Basin in California. The AQMD has identified the use ofrnhydrogen-fueled vehicles and fuel cells as key air quality attainment strategies.rnHydrogen fuel cell vehicles are true zero-emission vehicles and have the potential torneliminate VOC, Nox, CO and toxic emissions from vehicles. Over the past yearrnsignificant progress has been made in the development and implementation of a hydrogenrnfueling station network that will serve Southern California. AQMD has also beenrnimplementing hydrogen-fueled vehicle development and demonstration projects to utilizernthe hydrogen available at these stations as well as some distributed power generationrnoptions that will also use the hydrogen available at the fueling stations. The projectsrndemonstrate a variety of technologies and applications with sponsored research torndevelop innovative, renewable and economically viable new hydrogen productionrntechnologies. The variety of projects and programs will lead to the implementation of arnhydrogen economy in Southern California.
