Nanoscale particular materials are of great interest because their physical and chemical properties are different from those of bulk materials. Using nanoparticles of metal, alloy, semiconductor and ceramic to produce a functional material has been the focus of development efforts. In order to understand the unusual properties of these nanoparticles, and to develop processing methods for manufacturing the nanoparticles into functional materials, the reaction behavior of these nanoparticles must be investigated. An approach using electron irradiation with insitu atomic-scale observation to investigate the behavior and the mechanisms of Pt nanoparticles bonding by electron irradiation has been reported. In this work, we present the behavior and the mechanism of Pt nanoparticles activities.
