This paper deals with the design and use of instruments for chemical analysis whose primary purpose is pedagogical rather than mensural. Meaningful measurements can be made with these instruments; however, in order to use them the operator must know the theory behind their design. A byproduct of the project has been inexpensive instrumentation. A Poggendorf apparatus, Weston cell, magnetic stirrer, calomel electrode, pH meter, glass electrode, polarograph, recording potentiometer, potentiostat, amperostat and spectrophotometer can all be assembled for a total near $200.
