THE MOTHER OF ALL SOLID WASTE SURVEYS: SOLID WASTE SERVICES IN THE 100 LARGEST U.S. CITIES

The survey of solid waste service arrangements, programs, and rates in the 100 largest cities in the United States was conducted by Hilton Farnkopf & Hobson (HF&H), a solid waste consulting firm that provides consulting services exclusively to government agencies. The survey was conducted during the first half of 1997, and identified the market shares of public and private service providers, the types of services offered, collection methods, fee levels, and rate structures.rnRepresentatives from each of the 100 cities were contacted by HF&H to participate in initial telephone interviews. Responses were subsequently mailed to each city for written confirmation. The results were then aggregated to tabulate the survey statistics for the 100 cities as a group.
