Leadership of the IT unit appears to be a critical successrnfactor in strategic planning and implementation ofrntechnology by organisations. Yet IT managers andrnexecutives have little formal training in leadership. Wernembarked on a three-year action research project in whichrnwe sought to improve the leadership practices ofrnindividuals and thereby improve the relationships betweenrnthe business and IT communities. Along the way, wernstimulated a desire to foster a Leadership culture amongrnthe IT managers and executives. This paper presents thernstory of that project and the resultant policies of the ITrnmanagement team.
