Distance learning is becoming an expectation and most universities now offer a wide range of online courses. Online deliveryrnof technology courses, however, has been problematic when the course either includes a hands-on component or covers veryrncomplex topics. An alternative presentation mode is the hybrid, or blended, model where classes meet physically on specifiedrndays and have an online component for others. This paper discusses the benefits and challenges of using the hybrid model forrnan upper division security course. Meeting approximately 50% of the scheduled times, discussion of critical or conceptuallyrndifficult topics, guest speakers, and hands-on labs are successfully combined with online activities, simulations, and minilecturesrnto offer a flexible and multi-media learning experience.
