Utilization of the Traffic Channel using a Retrofit FM/DAB Tuner Module with integrated GSM-Modem and Bluetooth Interface

The wish for a smooth and efficient car ride demands for reliable information on traffic flow and road status at our planned route. Broadcasters offer traffic jam information with an update rate of 30 minutes. Most of the time however, these information come too late and are outdated. What we need is an easy to install and cheap device which improves road status information by 80%. This higher update ratio is achieved by utilizing the Traffic Channel information on the DAB/DMB media in combination to the TP- and TMC-information.rnThinking of vehicular aftermarket devices for DAB or DMB, the market is very limited. So the motivation is high to enter this immense retail market, with a novel FM/DAB/DAB+ Tuner Module which can retrofitted into sparsely equipped compact vehicles. In addition, a handsfree GSM-telephone kit with Bluetooth connectivity shall be integrated for further benefit. This paper describes the idea, the concept and strategy. We want to offer free participation in the project to develop, test, manufacture and distribute a retrofit FM/DAB/ DAB+ module with handsfree phone kit.
