According to the using condition oft he refining ladles, the requirement of refining ladle refractories and the corresponding consideration of the formulation design are discussed the application situation of the corundum spinel castables used in refining ladles is introduced in this paper.It is optimal for high purity corundum spinel castables using white fused corundum as extra-large and large-to-medium aggregates, tabular corundum as fine aggregates, and pure calcium aluminate cement as binder.There should be enough Al2O3 in the material matrix to prevent the infiltration of CaO in the slag.Secondly,there should be lots of spinel with high activity to solutionize the FeO and the MnO in the slag.Water reducing agent can choose the FS series agents.Aluminum powder and organic fiber can be chosen as anti-explosion agent.And the best addition amount of both is from 0.1% to 0.15%.Citric acid and basic compound can be chosen as retarder and coagulant,respectively.The anti-explosion temperature of castables, which containing aluminum powder,decreases when boric acid is adopted as retarder or Na2CO3 and Ca(OH)2 are used as coagulant.The high purity corundum spinel castables have been applied in 120-ton refining ladles, the service life is 84 heats,and the average erosion depth is about 1 mm per heat.
