The effects of Y2O3 additions on the sintering properties and microstructure of spinel were investigated using alumina-rich spinel as raw materials.The phase constitution and microstructure of the samples were characterized by XRD and SEM, and the pores structure of the samples was measured by mercury porosimeter.The results indicate that a viscosity melt formed wrapping around spinel crystal boundary by adding a little Y2O3 powders (1wt%), YAG would crystal around spinel crystal boundary by adding more Y2O3 powders (≥3wt%);The sintering properties of spinel is significantly improved by adding Y2O 3 powders less than 3wt%, while it will be relatively weakened by adding Y2O3 powders more than 3wt%.
