Weighted In-text Citations and Research Impact Patterns: A case study of Library and Information Science

Treating all citations in a reference list equally is one of therncommon practices of citation analysis that have long beenrncriticized. The increasing availability of digital full-textrndocuments now makes it feasible to weigh citations inrnvarious ways, e.g., by their frequency or location in the text.rnIn this paper we report preliminary results of a comparisonrnof author citation weighing schemes based on in-textrncitation frequency, and the citation impact patterns thatrnemerge from them in the field of library and informationrnscience.
