More Savvy Than We Can Hope To Be: A Generational Lens on ICTs in the Changing Workplace

We take a generational lens to the study of information andrncommunication technologies (ICTs) and the changing U.S.rnWorkplace. Specifically, we draw from a broaderrnqualitative study on generational difference in thernworkplace to explore the questions: How is the interplayrnbetween generational differences and ICTs reshaping thernculture and boundaries of work and the workplace? Wernpresent two preliminary findings related to differences inrn(1) socio-emotional associations with ICTs and (2) thernsocio-technical structure in the work-life relationship. Inrnconclusion, we discuss potential implications of thesernchanges, as well as critical questions to be addressed inrnfuture research around generational differences and the rolernof ICTs in the changing U.S. workplace.
